Information regarding COVID-19

May 4, 2020

The health and safety of our guests and team members has always been of paramount importance to Coney Island Park. Since the onset of the COVID-19 crisis in the United States, we have been monitoring the situation and enhancing our sanitation and operational plans to align with the best practices and recommendations shared by leading health organizations across the country.

Based on the information recently released regarding the “reopening” of the State of Ohio, the 2020 opening of Coney Island Park will unfortunately need to be pushed back from May 22 to later this summer. As the postponement of our 2020 opening will reduce the length of this year’s operating schedule by an undetermined amount of time, we are extending the validity of all 2020 season passes until the conclusion of the 2021 season at no additional cost. This change will apply to any and all season passes purchased in advance of or during the 2020 season.

We’re sure you have questions regarding the current situation and we’ll answer them as best we can. Thank you for your patience and for your understanding given this very unusual situation and as always, thank you for your support of Coney Island Park.

When will you be opening this year?

Unfortunately, we can’t provide a specific opening timeframe until we receive more information regarding the State of Ohio’s reopening plans. That being said, our team has plans for multiple opening timeframe scenarios in place and we will continue to update our plans as we learn more information. The safety of our guests and our employees is always our top priority and we will open as soon as we safely can once we’re given the approval of the local government and health officials

How will Coney Island’s operations be different in light of COVID-19?

The health and safety of our guests and team members has always been of paramount importance to Coney Island. Since the onset of the COVID-19 crisis in the United States, we’ve been monitoring the situation and enhancing our sanitation and operational plans to align with the best practices and recommendations of the nation’s leading health organizations.

We’re making a variety of changes to our operations to align with today’s social distancing needs and to today’s enhanced sanitation needs. We’ll continue to refine our plans before and after our opening as we receive additional guidance from the governor’s office, the local health department, and leading health organizations across the nation such as the CDC.

What new operational and cleaning procedures is Coney Island enacting due to COVID-19?

We’ll be adapting our operating procedures to align with social distancing practices and we’re enhancing our sanitation procedures. We’ll share specific details prior to the opening of the season but new policies will likely include managing the capacity in certain areas of the park to ensure that social distancing can be maintained, preplacing pool chairs and identifying preselected sitting areas on the grass to ensure social distancing is observed, placing hand sanitizers and disinfectants throughout the park, and enhancing our overall cleaning procedures, including frequent cleaning of high contact areas throughout the park.

Can the virus that causes COVID-19 survive in pools?

According to the CDC website , “there is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in pools or water play areas” and “proper operation and maintenance (including disinfection with chlorine and bromine) should inactivate the virus in the water.”
